Coldwell Banker completely failed me as a home buyer

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Aug 14, 2024

This all happened long ago, but the experienced soured me on home buying, and in particular on the Coldwell Banker company. It's not an issue that can be resolved - it happened 22 years ago, and the realtors involved are probably not even in the business anymore. But it feels good to say out loud that Coldwell Banker's practices suck and that I still feel bad about how I was treated.

Original review Aug 14, 2024
I was reading today about about new federal legislation that will eliminate the monopoly-enforced 6% commission for home sales, and I can only cheer that outcome. You have taken advantage of the home buyer for far too long, and this correction is overdue in coming.

Hear my experience - in my book you deserve 0%.
I purchased a home with the "help" of two lazy, inept Coldwell Banker realtors in 2002, and I have never forgotten the bitterness of the 10-month process of buying my home. I did almost all the work myself, did all the visits and inspections, and my first realtor went to one home with me then handed me printouts about 13 properties and told me "go check these out." My case was handed off from one realtor to another, even lazier than the first, with each having less interest than the one before. The home price was modest, and clearly the "realtors'" interest was commensurate - clearly not worth their attention, time and effort to help me find a home, because they were looking for more lucrative scores and spending more time with "valuable" customers. I reiterate: I did ALL the work, despite knowing nothing about the home -buying process, and you scammed me out of 6% for your "services.".

After the closing (which neither party's "realtor" even bothered to attend - in your ads there are all these smiles and housewarming gifts... what a JOKE), I wrote to the final agent and said that if I could give you 0%, I would gladly do so, because you did NOTHING to facilitate this transaction. By that time the first agent had been out of the picture for months, and clearly the second hand-me-down agent was even less motivated, because she would have to split the commission. I recall that she phoned me once to "earn" her commission.
This is certainly not limited to Coldwell Banker, but ever since that experience I have held Coldwell Banker in complete contempt.

My efforts to complain about the way my home purchase was handled were met with complete dismissal at the managerial level; basically I was ignored. Over the years I have tried to ensure that no one else falls for your scam, hopefully with some results. But I will NEVER forget how your and your agents treated me, and how you stole my money, and how you made me feel. Your company is beneath contempt, and crushed all of my illusions about home buying forever.

Companies like Coldwell Banker deserve bankruptcy. I wish I had never heard your name. The article I was reading today brought back all of my rage at your duplicity and greed, and how unfairly I was treated, despite my good faith efforts to complete the process and buy my first home. Even though it has been 22 years, I still feel the wounds of being treated the way I was, and having to pay unearned income to fund your scam.

Coldwell Banker is a fraud. You disgust me.

Happy to be able to finally say this - though of course you will just ignore my comments once again. Frauds!

Change of agent

House has been on the market for 6 months. Two other houses in our neighborhood have sold in one to five days at high prices.

Agent convinced us to repaint the interior walls and replace the carpet throughout at a price of 14,000 dollars. She did not have it painted the color I had requested and the carpet is cheap. The walls are a dark grey and the carpet medium brown.

The workers did not make an access panel for the Jaccuzi breaker and there is a globe missing from the upstairs lights. I would like to select a different Caldwell Banker agent and have the 14,000 dollars transferred so that we can settle that amount at closing.

No buyer is going to pay an extra $14,000 at closing for paint and carpeting. As far as wall repair, that is definitely on the owner to repair. The bad thing is, leaving the wall as is gives off the impression that upkeep was not a priority.

We have asked vimi to confirm all repairs before she put the apartment in the market and I have asked her multiple times to confirmed repairs and she mentioned that she had checked everything personally and apartment is move in ready. After few days of renter move in, they found major repairs related to safety (Patio door is not getting locked, appliances are not working, shower is not working) and we had same issue when we previously rented another rpropertly with vim, but we gave benefit of doubt about first time

Defrauded of 6000 dollars

I look forward to a reply urgently

Original review Jun 02, 2023
Very Urgent
It was my first time to use CB Karia branch Ortakent Bodrum.
The Agent who has since been sacked defrauded me of 6000 dollars. Unknown to me the Client paid in cash and the CB Agent assigned to me took the cash and disappeared.

I have all evidence to prove this happened. Head office will not take responsibility even though the Karia office have but will not give me my money.
I am reaching out to try and get somebody in CB to help me.
For my sake and more importantly for the reputation of CB in Turkey this must be investigated urgently and my money must be returned to me.
Please help me,
Yours sincerely

Never use Coldwell Banker in Turkey. I signed a legal contract with them to rent my apartment.

They sent an Agent to the family who rented from him and they paid all the money up front in cash. The Agent took the money and one and a half years later I still have not received my rental money. I have been defrauded of 6000$.

Head Office in Istanbul will not take responsibility. I will never get this money now.

Coldwell banker/vaqnguard reality

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Brittany Castro is the agent we had for our Rental property. On april 30th we got an email from Brittany that said she was going to be putting a 30 day notice on our door, so we moved out may 23rd.

On june 5th they withdrew the june rent and we didn't live there. Btittany said she forgot to take us off of auto pay and would reverse the transaction. As of today it is still not back in our account, and the deposit has not been refunded.

We also took pictures of all the black mold in the walls and duct work.when we moved into the house 90% of the screens had holes(large) we asked about it at every inspection they finally replaced the screens in april of 2022. The house was structurally unsound, the owner herself put her finger through the siding, it was rotted so she had someone replace the siding.

It was all black mold in the walls and the metal electrical boxes were rusted out. Instead of taking care of the issue they put the siding over the mold. They also cut the water line which flooded the dining room and we had to pay the 300.00 water bill. They took the electric meter off and put it back on instead of calling the electric company and after they were done we could not use the microwave or dishwasher because it would trip the breaker and shut the electric off in the living room and kitchen.

Repairs were not made within the 30 day period.

It took 7 years to get the screens replaced. To make matters worse the ac unit broke down as it did every year when we turned it on, but this year it was not fixed until the 30th day, so we had no AC in 90 degree weather for 29 days. We are both seniors and on disability. My husband kept having breathing problems and had 2 rounds of cancer while we lived there also.

Since we left the house Randy has had no breathing problems and no longer uses 3 types of medication for his breathing.

You could see the black mold coming thru the walls on the inside of the house and we were told to wash the walls with bleach and mold remover. Not our job but we did as they said.

We have talked to a lawyer and he suggested We contact the corporate office and see if you can resolve the situation, if not a complaint will be filed with the courts. The epa, health dept., and housing authority have been notified about the situation. Please advise on if you can resolve this and refund our money?

If not we will proceed with our lawyer.

Stacey Springer - from Coldwell Banker Southern Realty in Lawrenceburg TN - License Number 350688 was just disciplined on June 16, 2022 for a noncompliance issue with advertising. She was contacted on or about the same date regarding a political candidate advertisement that is attached to a Coldwell Banker realty sign appearing to endorse the candidate.

Based on Tennessee Code Title 62.

Professions, Businesses and Trades § 62-1*-*** as well as Tennessee Code 1260-02-.12 (B) this should apply to this realtor?
